Research Administration Round Table: Tuesday, April 8, 2008
1:30 -2:30pm in G10 Biotech

This month's session will focus on the NIH Public Access Policy:

Representatives of the Cornell University Library, including Katherine Chiang, Peter B. Hirtle and John M. Saylor will attend this session to discuss the Cornell University activities in response to the new, revised and now mandatory NIH Public Access Policy that requires all NIH-funded investigators to submit their final, peer-reviewed manuscripts to the NIH's PubMed Central (PMC) database upon acceptance for journal publication. This digital archive of biomedical and life sciences journal literature is located at http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov. Compliance with this policy is a term and condition of all grants and cooperative agreements active in fiscal year 2008 and beyond, and for all contracts awarded after April 7, 2008.

The Library has an informational Web site at http://www.library.cornell.edu/scholarlycomm/nihmandate.html that details what NIH-funded authors (or individuals who submit for them) need to know about complying with the new mandate. The Library also monitors an email address (nihmandate@cornell.edu) to respond to questions about compliance.

In addition, if time allows, we would like to include a discussion on the issues outlined in the recent publication "Complying with the National Institutes of Health Public Access Policy: Copyright Considerations and Options", written by Michael W. Carrol and made available by SPARC/Science Commons/ARL in February 2008.

Katherine Chiang is Public Services Librarian at Mann Library
Peter B. Hirtle is Cornell University Library's Intellectual Property Officer
John M. Saylor is Interim Associate University Librarian for Scholarly Communications and Collections

Please share this announcement with others you feel may benefit from attending this session.
