Many Department Managers and Investigators wonder why some research agreements take months to sign while other agreements can be signed in days.  This workshop seeks to answer that question by focusing on the nuts and bolts of standard contract review and negotiation.

The structure of a basic research contract will be examined as a reference point.  From there, the workshop will discuss key points that OSP Grant and Contract Officers focus on during their review process.  It will also feature interactive segments designed to expose the audience to "tricky" contract language.

Defining the standard Cornell University position on several significant issues allows the audience to develop an understanding of the negotiation process.  It is important to note that this workshop will not teach the skills necessary to become a successful negotiator.  Instead, it will focus on the use of negotiation in field of sponsored research administration.

Speakers for this workshop include Michael Lenetsky, Grant and Contract Officer of OSP; John Desch, Grant and Contract Officer of OSP; James Severson, President of Cornell Research Foundation; and Allen Bova, Director of Risk Management.
